General Motors has introduced a new generation of dexos1 engine oil, ACDelco dexos1 Gen 2 Full Synthetic! It has been newly designed to meet the lubrication needs of today’s smaller, higher performing engines. This new Full Synthetic replaces the dexos1 Gen 1 Synthetic Blend specification.
All GM engine oils are transitioning to this new formulation throughout 2017. Since dexos1 Gen 2 is fully backwards compatible with all pre-2018 model GM vehicles, the previous generation of dexos1 generation will no longer be produced after this full transition.
The dexos specification has gone through an extensive developmental and testing process. It requires a number of proprietary tests that are not included in current industry standards and sets performance criteria at a level that exceeds many current standards. The new superior dexos1 Gen 2 specification has a number of benefits, as well as expanded motor oil specification requirements, including four new engine tests and a new Vehicle Chassis Dynamometer Fuel Economy test.

When to use dexos
You should use the dexos1 specification on General Motors vehicles with a model year of 2011 and up.
Only licensed dexos products have been certified by GM to meet the dexos specification. These officially licensed products have gone through GM's rigorous testing process, are monitored for quality, and are recommended for use in GM vehicles. Unlicensed product quality and suitability for GM vehicles cannot be guaranteed and, therefore, use of unlicensed products may result in lower levels of performance and engine damage not covered under warranty.

dexos1 Gen 2 motor oil is identified by the new dexos1 logo below. If it does not have this label, regardless of any other claims, it is NOT dexos1 Gen 2 motor oil.
