Question: What function does the electromagnet in a Magnaride shock serve?
Answer: When the electromagnet is activated, it changes the fluid viscosity from thin to thick instantly thereby changing the dampening speed of the shock. Magnaride uses a mixture of easily magnetized iron particles in a synthetic hydrocarbon oil along with an electromagnet in the damper’s piston that, when activated, causes the iron particles to clump together. This restricts their movement through the orifices in the piston. By varying the current to the electro-magnet, the fluid viscosity can be instantly changed from thin to thick.
